Weapons & 10-20-LIFE
Stay out of Florida prisons—once you’re in, you might not get out.
Orlando is a lot safer with the advent of tough Florida weapons laws, but, for people who are accused of using a gun during a crime, the stakes are high. New laws don’t provide much hope of freedom beyond a serious, effective criminal defense.
Florida’s 10-20-LIFE law is a mandatory minimum-sentencing rule that applies to anyone who pulls or fires a gun or shoots someone during the alleged commission of a crime:
- Mandates a minimum 10-year prison term for certain felonies in which the offender has a firearm or other destructive device
- Mandates a minimum 20-year prison terms if the offender fires the gun
- Mandates a minimum 25-year to life sentence if the offender shoots someone
- Mandates a minimum 3-year prison terms if the offender is a felon.
- Mandates consecutive sentences
If you are charged with weapons possession during the commission of a felon in Orlando, contact John Namey, P.A., Attorney at Law for immediate assistance.
Orlandoans have the right to bear arms
The U.S. Constitution gives the people of Orlando and central Florida the right to bear arms, but the state of Florida limits when, where, and how people protect themselves.
The law office defends people who are accused of violating weapons laws in Orange, Seminole, Volusia, and Brevard Counties:
- Weapon use resulting in homicide
- Concealed weapons, including knives or martial arts devices
- Misuse or violation of Florida handgun permits
- Illegal display of weapons, including marital arts devices
- Illegal possession of firearms, including by felons and parolees
- Illegal possession of firearms, including automatic or assault weapons
- Illegal possession of firearms, including unregistered or illegally modified guns
Weapons offenses often carry minimum mandatory sentences, especially for felons and parolees. Starting a strong criminal defense as soon as you are charged with weapons crimes is an important part of maintaining your freedom and your right to protect yourself.
